(Colorado Springs, Colorado) - An elite squad of United States male boxers
is completing final preparations before the first of two dual competitions
with Italy on Wednesday night in Rome, Italy. The U.S. team has been in
Europe for two weeks as part of the European Challenge, which has given
them the chance to train with top squads from both Great Britain and Italy.
After spending a week on England, they traveled to Assisi, Italy on
September 1st for the second leg of their training camp. With thousands
of miles and two full weeks of training camp under their belts, the U.S.
team members are primed and ready to face off in a high level
international competition with Italy in historic Rome.
In lightweight action, Jose Ramirez will face 2004 Olympian and 2009 World
Champion Domenico Valentino.
The two squads will travel back to Assisi, Italy where they have been
training since their arrival in Italy following the competition for a second
dual on Saturday, September 11. The second dual event will commemorate
the nine year anniversary of the tragic attacks of September 11, 2001.
The European Challenge is the first international event for the newly
crowned 2010 USA Boxing National Team.
